Choosing the Right Gaming Laptop

Now that the shortage of graphics cards is over, gamers can easily find quality machines. The main issue is figuring out which gaming laptop best suits your needs.. These devices come in all shapes and sizes, but can they compete with other gaming machines?

Desktop computers are generally preferred because they offer more hardware upgrade options and allow for enhancements to extend their life cycle or increase performance. But since desktop computers you can only play where your PC is installed since are bulky devices that need to be connected to a monitor, keyboard, and other accessories.

If you want top-of-the-line hardware and the ability to play wherever you want, then a laptop is the device for you. Even though buying a laptop computer may seem like an easy task, besides autonomy, there are several points to consider before taking the plunge!

Screen display

If you mostly game at home, you might have an extra dedicated gaming monitor. But when you’re away from your external monitor (or don’t have one at all), a good laptop screen is a must. 3, 15, and 17 inches are the most typical screen sizes. If you had to choose a larger screen, the laptop would be much less portable. But bigger is better, right?

The resolution, or the quantity of pixels that display on the screen, is another crucial consideration after choosing the screen size. In any event, a clearer image results from a higher resolution. Newer laptops come with a 1440p/4K display, supplanting 1080p models.

If you thought that was enough, think again! The refresh rate is also an essential factor when choosing the laptop screen. The refresh rate is the number of times per second the screen can display a new image. It is measured in hertz (Hz). Each hertz equals one frame. To put that into perspective, a 100Hz screen will display 100 frames per second. So for the refresh rate, the higher the better. For the best gaming experience, we recommend at least 144Hz.

Even if having a powerful screen is essential, it is only the tip of the iceberg. To get the best result on the screen, you’ll also need a high-performance processor and graphics card.

Processor

The processor is the brain of your laptop. It processes system software instructions as well as signals delivered to computer components.  When choosing the processor, there are several points to check, including the clock speed and the number of cores, among others.

  • Clock Speed: Determines the speed at which the processor fetches and executes instructions. In general, a faster CPU has a higher clock speed. (measured in GHz).
  • Number of cores: A processor can have multiple cores, each acting as its own individual processing unit. The moreYour processor can handle more jobs if it has more cores.

There are many processors on the market. If you want something a little punchier, you can buy an unlocked processor that can be overclocked to improve its performance. Overclocking refers to exceeding the maximum clock speed of your processor. Clock speed is the number of cycles your processor can complete in one second. DIY overclocking results in a significantly higher clock speed. But don’t forget that the faster your processor goes, the more it heats up, which can cause many problems in your system, especially with a laptop where cooling can be compromised! So, in order not to reduce the life of your new laptop,

Graphic card

The graphics card creates the pixels that form the image on the screen. It works hand-in-hand with the processor to deliver smooth frame rates and high resolution gaming.

All laptops have a graphics card, but most are built into the motherboard. In most cases, this is sufficient for the standard user. But if you’re a gamer and want something a bit more powerful, you can opt for a high-end graphics card. Most gaming laptops have a factory-installed GeForce GTX graphics card. These graphics cards are generally less powerful than desktop cards of the same series. But with optimizations, one can improve their performance to obtain results comparable to those of integrated systems.

Storage

SSDs outperform their older mechanical counterparts, HDDs, in almost every aspect of gaming. SSDs are much faster than HDDs, which means the system will be able to load files and programs much faster, and thus reduce boot times for games and the system itself. Likewise, SSDs have no rotating parts, which means they produce less heat than HDDs.

Almost all gaming laptops now come with an SSD. They also have several interfaces, with PCIe NVMe M.2 being the quickest.Your choice will depend on how much storage you want. A lot of laptops also allow you to upgrade or add another SSD. This is an advantage because you will be able to improve your system over time with upgraded parts.

If you need extra storage later, and your laptop has an M.2 NVMe port, Kingston has a fantastic option built for gaming! The Kingston FURY Renegade SSD leverages the latest Gen 4×4 NVMe controller and 3D TLC NAND.For PC builders and hardware aficionados looking for extreme performance, it offers top performance and huge capacity. With speeds up to 7300/7000MB/s read/write 1 and capacities up to 4TB 2 , there’s no need to delete data to free up space.

RAM

RAM (Random Access Memory) is memory that temporarily stores data but makes it much easier and faster for your processor to retrieve.Depending on your budget, you can purchase gaming laptops with a sizable quantity of RAM already installed.  Some laptops offer the option to upgrade existing RAM afterwards.

One option we recommend is the Kingston FURY Impact DDR5 , an Intel® XMP 3.0 certified SODIMM offering speeds of 4800 MT/s 3 and capacities up to 64 GB. A fantastic upgrade for a gaming laptop!

When buying a gaming laptop, consider all of the above points before making your decision. Although storage and RAM are incredibly important, they can be upgraded later if you don’t have sufficient funds right away. Don’t be afraid to focus on other things to get the best laptop possible. Just make sure the model you decide to buy can be upgraded!
