UDP (User Datagram Protocol) Nedir?

With the development of technology, many concepts that people have never heard of before have emerged.

One of these concepts is UDP, which has just begun to be heard. UDP stands for “User Datagram Protocol”, and its meaning is “User Data Block Protocol”.

There are protocol suites called TCP/IP and UDP is one of these protocols. UDP is a two-layer transport protocol.

What is UDP used for?

The basic function of UDP is to send data without establishing a connection. UDP protocol was developed to create datagram mode in new-generation computer networks.

Thus, packet switch computer communication is possible in computers. On computers that do not use UDP, another protocol called TCP is often used. Data transmission with UDP was created mainly by focusing on small numbers.

Compared to other protocols, it serves a small number of message exchanges. Another point to consider is the process of the data sent.

Unlike most protocols, UDP does not care about whether the data is transmitted after sending it and does not inform the user about it.

For this reason, it does not guarantee complete reliability to UDP users. It transfers the data faster because it does not receive information during the transfer process and does not follow the process.

This is actually what makes UDP stand out from other protocols. Those who especially care about speed are the ones who use UDP.

In addition, UDP consists of 4 areas. The length of each of these fields is 16 bits. When the reliability problems of UDP, which has a total length of 64 bits, are resolved in the coming years, the number of users will also increase.

How is it different from TCP?

Users should conduct detailed research to decide which protocol to prefer. The most used protocols today are UDP and TCP.

UDP is used to transfer data in WAN networks. It can transmit sound and images simultaneously.

Since UDP does not require installation and flow control, unlike other protocols, its data transmission speed is high.

Let’s assume that the transmission paths of UDP and TCP are the same. The service quality of a real-time data transfer via UDP is affected by a data transfer via TCP.

The reason for this is the high data traffic generated by TCP. When such a problem occurs, UDP’s service quality will decrease.

Another point to consider is the bandwidths of TCP and UDP. TCP is preferred more often because it has higher bandwidth.

UDP has less bandwidth. Another reason why the TCP protocol is preferred is that it is more reliable than the UDP protocol.

For example, when you send data from a device using TCP, you can check whether your data is sent and get information.

UDP is considered an unreliable protocol. After sending the data over the network used, you cannot find out whether it has been sent or not.

In this case, companies that want to transfer data more securely do this with their own methods. When you transfer with the TCP protocol, your data goes sequentially, but with UDP it does not.

In addition, if you use it with TCP, you will be offered an uninterrupted connection.

However, when using UDP, a connection is established only during the data sending process and the connection is closed automatically when the sending process is completed.

To summarize briefly, the TCP protocol guarantees you security, while the UDP protocol guarantees speed. By paying attention to this situation, you can choose the one that suits you best.
